What this page is, and what it is not
Everything below comes from the operator’s own website, read on the date shown, with the exact page linked underneath it. Where they publish a time, a price or a phone number, we repeat it and attribute it. Where they publish nothing, we say that too — because after an afternoon of this, the silence turned out to be the story.
We have not been to any of these places. Nobody from this project has taken a tour, tasted anything or slept anywhere in this region. So nothing here is written as though we have. There are no impressions, no recommendations, no ranking and no stars — and there is no order of merit in the list: it runs from most to least published detail, which is a fact about their websites, not about them.
Prices and hours are the operator’s as at the date shown, and they will go stale. Confirm directly before you drive. If you find something here that is wrong, or you run one of these operations and want the entry corrected, tell us — that is what the form is for.

Where a visitor can actually go
Three operators publish something you could act on this week. They are not equivalent: one is a proper booked farm tour, one is a shop on a mountain pass, and one is a place to sleep with no published way to book it.
If you want them arranged into an actual trip rather than a list, the first two fall naturally into a two-day route: the 10 o’clock drive.
Skimmelberg
Clanwilliam · organic rooibos and buchuA two-hour farm tour: both plants as they grow wild in the veld and as they are farmed, the rooibos seedling beds, the buchu nursery and the wormery — ending with a tea tasting at the office. It is the only operator in the region that publishes a complete visitor offer, and it is the reason this page exists at all.

Carmién Tea
Piekenierskloof Pass, N7, above CitrusdalA tea shop and tasting room — not on the farm, but at the De Tol Farm Deli on top of the Piekenierskloof Pass, directly on the N7. If you are driving north from Cape Town this is the one you will pass without planning to, and it is open seven days.

Heiveld Co-operative
Suid–Bokkeveld, near NieuwoudtvilleNot a tour but a stay. The co-operative — small-scale, grower-owned, organic and fair trade — points visitors to the Rietjieshuis Eco Lodge, where guests sleep in traditional restio houses and can join workshops in restio building, baking bread the traditional way, and the use of medicinal plants. It is the most interesting thing on this page and the hardest to act on.

The ones that publish nothing for a visitor
These nine are real, working rooibos operations in the region — several of them among the largest in the industry. On the date shown, none of them published anything a visitor could act on: no tour, no shop, no hours, no invitation. Several publish a street address, which is not the same as saying the public may use it, and we are not going to imply that it is.
This is not a criticism, and it is not a closed door. Most of these are processors and exporters whose customers are wholesale buyers, not tourists; a website that ignores visitors is the correct website for that business. But the gap is worth naming, because “the region has a rooibos tourism route” and “you can go and see rooibos being made” are two very different claims, and only the first one is true today.

What we cannot tell you yet
This is a desk audit. It is a real answer to a real question, and it is already more than anyone else publishes, but it is not the finished page. Four things are missing and we know exactly what they are.
- What any of it is like. We have not taken the Skimmelberg tour, stood in the Carmién tasting room or slept at Rietjieshuis. Until we have, this page reports what operators say and nothing more.
- The operators who take visitors but do not say so online. Almost certainly several. A phone call would find them, and that is field research we have not done. Nine blanks in the table above are nine phone calls waiting.
- What a harvest looks like. Rooibos is cut between December and April, and watching that happen is the single best reason to time a trip. Nobody publishes whether you can.
- Where any of this is, precisely. No coordinates, so no pins. We do not plot a map we cannot stand behind — the same reason the region map is a sketch and not a pinned map.
