How to read this list
Every entry is the operator’s own published account of itself, read on the date under it, with the page linked. Third-party directories do not count. A tourism-bureau page or a listing site saying a place exists is not the same as that place publishing its own hours, and we have kept the distinction because it is the one that decides whether the information is still true.
We have not slept in any of these. There are no impressions, no recommendations, no ranking and no stars. The order is geographic and nothing more.
The most striking thing we found: not one operator in this region publishes a rate. Every single one puts prices behind an enquiry or a booking engine. So we cannot tell you what a night costs anywhere in rooibos country, and any site that does is either quoting something it has not checked or has information we could not find.
For the Citrusdal valley specifically, our sister guide visitcitrusdal.com already carries two dozen places. We cross-link rather than copy it out.
- A published rooibos connection
- Or a base for the drive or the walks
- From the operator’s own site
- Read and dated by us
- Nobody pays, nobody is ranked
Where you can sleep on the crop
Two places in this region put you on land that grows rooibos and say so themselves. If the point of your trip is the plant, these are the two.

Where to sleep to make the drive work
These three have no rooibos growing on them, or none they claim. They are here because of where they are: the 10 o’clock drive needs you in the region the night before, and the Cederberg walks need a base.

Skimmelberg
Clanwilliam · the farm that runs the tourWe are listing this as an absence on purpose. Skimmelberg is the working organic rooibos and buchu farm that runs the region’s only published farm tour, so anyone reading about it will reasonably assume they can sleep there too.
published
- Their own site, skimmelberg.co.za, publishes no accommodation of any kind — the navigation runs bulk sales, wholesale, packaging, tours, shop, about, blog and contact, and nothing else
- A separate address, skimmelberg-getaway.co.za, is referenced in search results, but the domain does not resolve. We could not reach it on 7 September 2026
- So on the published evidence you cannot stay there, and we would rather say that than leave the question hanging
What we cannot tell you yet
- What a night costs, anywhere. Not one operator in this region publishes a rate. Every price sits behind an enquiry form or a booking engine, so we have no figure to give you and we will not estimate one.
- What any of these places are actually like. Nobody from this project has stayed in any of them. When that changes, this page changes.
- Wupperthal. The village is reachable by gravel road over the Pakhuis Pass and is the most rooibos-defined settlement in the region, but we have found no operator-published accommodation in it. That is a gap worth closing properly and carefully — the village lost most of its buildings to fire in 2018.
- Nieuwoudtville and the escarpment, beyond Rietjieshuis. Spring flower season fills that town every year and we have no sourced beds for it.
- Whether any rooibos farm takes guests without publishing it. Nine operators in this region publish nothing at all for visitors. Some may well have a cottage. They are listed by name, and those calls have not been made.
There is no charge, no membership and no placement to buy. If you take guests and publish it, send us the link and we will read it and add you. If something above is wrong, that is our error and we would like to fix it.
